All Ireland Pollinator Plan Print

The great man Albert Einstein once said “If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would have only four years of life left. “No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man.” One third of our Bee species are now under threat of extinction!

In mid September 2015, Biodiversity Ireland, together with 68 government and non-government organisations, launched their All-Ireland Pollinator Plan 2015-2020 which aims to sustain the Bee population and call for wildflowers and shrubs at roadsides, farmlands and gardens.

Mullingar Tidy Towns are happy to support this initiative with our own particular emphasis being enhancing the areas along the Royal Canal and the River Brosna.

But each and every one of us can contribute through maintaining our own gardens as Bee friendly - focussing on the flowers that bees need - any open cup flower are their favourites- cluster the flowers into bunches of the same species and this will attract more pollinators than if there are individual plants of different varieties in the flower bed.
