Mullingar Tidy Towns have a new van

The chairperson of Mullingar Tidy Towns, Bill Collentine, and committee members Tomás Nally and Eamonn McGowan have officially unveiled the new van for the organisation.

Mullingar Tidy Towns, alongside Westmeath County Council, are working hard to keep the town clean and both are asking the people, young and old, to get more involved, especially as the evenings are getting brighter and longer so that everyone can do their part in keeping the greenways greener and the walkways cleaner.

Mr Collentine thanked all those who volunteered in their communities in keeping them clean and litter free, who organise clean-up days, and who help plant new flowers in their communities.

He would also like to thank all the schools and their teachers who teach and encourage their students to do their part in their schools and communities and their town.

This help is greatly appreciated as the young people understand more and more the value of nature, habitats and how important it is to reduce consumption and recycle rubbish, and what it means to the environment not to throw away rubbish on the streets, footpaths and ditches. The children are also taught how to grow their own vegetables.

The Mullingar Tidy Towns committee also thank all the sports clubs in Mullingar who work tirelessly in keeping their grounds looking their best; and the business people of the town, who are out morning, noon and night making sure our town is kept clean by sweeping outside their buildings, and for the lovely flower arrangements they display outside their premises.

The new and Mullingar Tidy Towns van will be on hand to offer assistance to any community or residential group who need help.
